Mom’s Emerald Eyes Taught Me the Importance of Family Portraits

As a professional photographer I know the importance of a family photography session. Specializing in mother-daughter and family photography, I spend my days creating beautiful, lasting images for women and their families. My goal is to capture the love and connections that define them. As a photographer, but more importantly, as a daughter, I wish I had given myself the gift of a family photography session with my own Mom.
Irish Eyes

Just a few years ago, I could lose myself in the emerald green eyes that were my mother’s most striking feature. Those eyes, a vibrant, unforgettable green, held so much history. They were the eyes that saw me take my first breaths, watched me grow through childhood and grow into the woman I am today. They shone with pride, glistened with tears, and always, always, radiated a deep, unwavering love for her family and friends. Being Irish, those eyes could also flash with wit and mischief – a sparkle that always hinted at a good story.

Mom’s been gone four years now. And I’m left searching. Searching for a recent photograph of those eyes, of her face, her smile. Sure I’ve found lots of snapshots, and a handful of selfies of us. But I don’t have a single professional photograph of just the two of us from this time in our lives. As a professional photographer, I know the value of capturing cherished moments before they become memories. Looking back, I wish I had done a family photography session with my Mom. Something timeless that truly captured her essence. If I could turn back time, I’d orchestrate a photo day in a heartbeat.

Imagining the Perfect Mother-Daughter Portrait

I envision it now: My mom and my sisters gathered in my photography studio, enjoying a custom family photography session designed to celebrate our bonds. A professional portrait session where a makeup artist pampers us, ensuring we feel confident and radiant in front of the camera. We’d wear our favorite jewel tones, Mom in her beloved purple. Soft, flattering light would surround us as we laughed and talked, Mom in the center, the four of us surrounding her, arms intertwined, holding hands. What a precious gift it would be to give my sisters a portrait of all of us together, and individual photos of each of them with Mom, showcasing the unique and special bonds we all shared with her.

I can’t recreate that moment now. For me, that opportunity is lost. But I can share my experience with you.

If you still have your Mom, if you are a Mom, if you Mother in any way – please, please capture that relationship. Whatever it looks like for you – big smiles, quiet connections, dancing, holding hands, gazing into each other’s eyes, looking out at the world together – document it. Let me help you capture your love and create timeless memories. A family photography session isn’t just about pictures—it’s about preserving your most precious moments for generations to come.

Let’s Create Something Beautiful Together

“When Irish eyes are smiling, Sure it’s like a morn in Spring, In the lilt of Irish laughter You can hear the angels sing. When Irish hearts are happy, All the world seems bright and gay, And when Irish eyes are smiling, Sure, they steal your heart away.” And they leave you with memories you’ll cherish forever. Let me help you preserve those memories. Let’s create something beautiful together.
