Celebrating Grandparents Day in September!
With Grandparents Day this month, I realized just how much I enjoy photographing family generations together. Capturing the interaction between Grandparents and their grandchildren is sweet on a whole different level! There is an affection and delight from Grandparents for the next generation that is just beautiful to see. They usually tell me stories about how similar features and personalities weave throughout their family. In the studio on portrait session day, there’s lots of genuine smiling and laughing and lots of hugging! It’s a privilege to be part of it. Most Grandparents choose to preserve these moments with a beautiful heirloom album of the entire session. My keepsake albums are both gorgeous and sturdy and hold up to little hands turning the pages. From the very young to the very old, everyone can enjoy the moments again and again!
My own Grandparents inspired my love of photography
Both of my grandmothers were key figures in my life when I was growing up. One taught me the power of a good hug and being honest. She always gathered the family for photos in the back yard before we could leave her house. The other one introduced me to traveling and sharing photos from her adventures. She encouraged my technical skills and inspired my love of photography! I have a few photographs of family gatherings where I am with my grandmothers, but I wish I had one good image of me with each of my Grandmothers. That would be a treasure. You can be sure I photograph my own kids with their grandparents every time we are together!
Spending Time Together on Grandparents Day
Did you know that “Grandparents Day” is celebrated in early September?
What a great reason to spend time together! Sharing memories and traditions between kids, parents and grandparents keeps them all growing closer.
Here are some ideas to try. If, like me, you don’t have any Grandparents nearby, you can be a great help to someone else’s grandparent. Support our local community’s older generation year round.
Check out volunteering at NeighborRide or at Winter Growth.
If you have a Grandparent or a Grand-friend or if you are a Grandparent (lucky you!) #DoSomethingGrand this month.
I’d love to talk about capturing your Family’s Generations. Send me a note or call 443-574-4874
